Quick question: What is the purpose of a DUI checkpoint? It's education! Many people assume it's to catch impaired drivers, but according to Lt. Mitch Galland with the BPD's traffic division, that has never been the primary goal. He said it's a chance to remind the public of the dangers, while checking for proper licensing, registration and things like active felony warrants. Finding an impaired driver is a bonus.
